Sedia Savonarola o Curulis, Modello "Il Giglio" Savonarola chair with beautiful decorations carved into the wood, including the lily. The lily of Florence has been the symbol of the city since the Middle Ages. Represented with five upper petals (three main and two thinner and budded stamens) and lower branches, all arranged symmetrically.
Coming from a Tuscan villa where these chairs are called by the popular term a iccasse, or X-shaped. In fact, they have a folding structure with crossed supports and were widely spread in France between the 15th and 16th centuries. In reality it seems that they all probably date back to a prototype of Roman origin, the Curulis saddle, a folding seat decorated with ivory, symbol of judicial power, which the magistrate carried with him together with other instruments, such as fasces and axes, wherever he intended to erect his court.
This beautiful item is made of wood in dark brown. Foldable by removing the backrest and armrests. Dimensions 66x46x87cm, Seat height 46 cm
