The educational and common areas of the school complex have a different visual typology, which is convenient for pupils navigation.
Each class is a combination of a clay base with a permeable bamboo roof in the form of a truncated cone. A permeable roof in combination with a general canopy provides the necessary shading for a comfortable stay of students in the classroom. An external upper roof covered with a waterproof fabric protects against rain.
The school is a complex of interconnected functional volumes, which are located under a bamboo roof with waterproof fabric. The fabric can be moved due to weather conditions.
To solve the problem of difficult water access, funnels of a bamboo roof are used as reservoirs for collecting rainwater. Filters and taps for dispensing water will be installed in these tanks.
RURAL SCHOOL is a competition project of a school in Haiti developed in 2019. The competition was organised by ARCHsharing in partnership with the humanitarian association TECHO Haiti.
Our proposal is based on two principles: dispersion of volumes for a more active educational process and usage of a local building technologies to create an authentic image.
